Natural teeth are more porous than they appear, which means they can absorb things like coffee, dark-colored sodas, and berry juice and become stained over time. Porcelain veneers also cannot absorb teeth whitening products, which is why we always ensure that our patients are satisfied with the color of their veneers before they are placed.
A local anesthetic is always used before veneers are placed so the appointment is comfortable and pain-free. You may feel a little soreness in your teeth and gums after the numbness wears off, but it shouldn’t be anything that over-the-counter pain medication or a warm saltwater solution can’t relieve. Veneers also do not cause tooth sensitivity, as they cover the natural teeth and protect them from heat, cold, and other things that trigger sensitivity.
Dental veneers are not usually covered by insurance, as they are considered cosmetic treatments. If you decide to use veneers for restorative purposes, some dental plans may offer partial coverage.
